In celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Barcelona Olympics, Nike and FC Barcelona have unveiled the team’s new home jersey for the 2022-23 season, inspired by the Olympic City of Barcelona.
Evoking the concept of “The Flame Lives On”, the new jersey evokes the spirit of rejuvenation and redefinition that was demonstrated when Barcelona welcomed the world.
Thirty years ago, with the Olympic Games, the city took a giant step towards modernization while maintaining its spirit and roots. As this phase was also a time of transition and change for Barça’s first team squad, the club wants to look back and share this Olympic spirit by looking to the future.
For the first time, the front of the shirt features the logo of the club’s new main sponsor, Spotify, while the back features the logo of the United Nations Refugee Agency (ACNUR) below the number as a sign of solidarity with refugees.
The Olympic Games not only brought social and cultural changes to all Barcelona residents, but also brought development to the city. The creation of the Olympic Port and the renovation of the Olympic Village connected the city to the sea and also gave it a completely new infrastructure, such as the St. George’s Palace stadium, the Corserola Tower built by Norman Foster, or the Monte Montevideo communications tower built by Santiago Calatrava. These buildings are now part of everyone’s memory and have opened up new green landscapes and urban routes. The Olympic spirit runs through the streets of the city with a sense of pride that continues to this day.
